The Russian Anton Shipulin wins the sprint competition in Antholz

Even among the juniors, Shipulin was in a class of his own. In 2006 he became relay world champion, and two years later in Ruhpolding he won three World Championship gold medals (sprint, pursuit and relay).

Today he celebrated his first big success with the “big guys”. He has never been on the podium in the World Cup before. His best result so far was 4th place last year in Antholz, just a tenth of a second behind Christoph Stephan.

Today Shipulin completed the 10 km in 23.36,2:34 minutes and won by ten seconds over the experienced German Michael Greis. The 0,8-year-old was still XNUMX seconds ahead of Shipulin after the second shooting, but was unable to keep this lead at the finish. Third place went to the Norwegian Lars Berger, winner of the sprint in Ruhpolding a week ago.

While Shipulin and Greis made no mistakes at the shooting range, Berger missed once. Simon Eder came fourth as the best Austrian, Christian De Lorenzi saved the honor of the hosts with an excellent fifth place.

So I think my teammates were just a little tired today and that's why they didn't perform so well.

Daniel Taschler, World Cup debut It was fantastic to make my World Cup debut today in front of my own audience. I'm not at all happy with the race itself. At the shooting range today I showed my worst performance of the season. In the end I showed my nerves here. Now I'm looking forward to the next highlight, the European Championships in Ridnaun in February. I'm preparing for these races. If I perform well there, perhaps another World Cup appearance could follow this year.
