The star who stands in the shadows

When Dorothea Wierer struggled across the finish line on Tuesday after 15 grueling individual kilometers, the racer was crowned double world champion in Antholz. But the local hero was not the first to achieve this in the South Tyrol Arena. The 29-year-old is still not really in the spotlight. Maybe she'll be fine with being besieged by the Norwegian media but more or less left alone by the rest. Røiseland is in absolute top form; the Scandinavian has never been as good as she was in Antholz. After winning gold in the mixed relay, Røiseland, who comes from the south of Norway and counts fishing as her hobby, was crowned sprint world champion. These were her first World Cup medals, two bronzes were to follow by Tuesday: in the pursuit and in the individual competition. "I hope so." Røiseland has not been happy in this discipline so far, at the last Olympic Games in Pyeongchang she only came 71st and in the World Cup she only made it into the top ten once. “We haven't been great friends so far, the 15 kilometers and I,” said Røiseland in the run-up to the press conference with every mischievous smile on her face that she has had since her sprint title at the latest.

It's quite possible that the Norwegian grin will be visible again on Thursday. Then the single mixed relay is on the program. Røiseland really wants to start, but doesn't know anything specific yet: "I hope so, but the coaching team will decide." It makes you wonder what there is to decide. The Scandinavians will not have a better chance of winning a medal than with “Miss Hundred Percent”.
