German victories at the Sprint World Cup in Oslo, 17th Michela Ponza

The men's race ended with a surprise: Andreas Birnbacher celebrated the first World Cup victory of his career. Thanks to the second-best running time and error-free shooting, the 29-year-old German finished 10,2 seconds ahead of Swede Björn Ferry. His teammate Alexander Wolf came third. Markus Windisch from Rasen finished 2th with one shooting error, 04.9:38 minutes behind Birnbacher. Nine places behind was Lukas Hofer, who missed three times. Dominik Windisch was 63.

Things will be exciting in the overall World Cup. The Norwegian Trajei Boe had five penalties today and ended up outside the points in 44th place. As a result, his compatriot Emil Hegle Svendsen, who finished sixth today, was able to get within 37 points of Boe. Lukas Hofer is 9th in the overall World Cup. Boe could no longer take the small crystal ball for victory in the sprint classification.

Magdalena Neuner continues to be in top form Magdalena Neuner secured the women's sprint world cup today. The 24-year-old German celebrated her fifth success of the season over the 7,5 km distance, overtaking the previous leader, Kaisa Mäkäräinen from Finland.

The ten-time world champion also made up a lot of ground in the fight for the overall World Cup, as Mäkäräinen and Helena Eckholm made a mistake today. Both made a total of three errors and finished the race in 19th and 37th place respectively. Neuner is now second overall and the gap to Mäkäräinen is only 22 points. Eckholm is third, three points behind Neuner.

Today Neuner went to Sart with a slight cold. At the finish she was 31,3 seconds ahead of Tora Berger and 46,1 seconds ahead of Darya Domracheva. Michela Ponza took 17th place as the best South Tyrolean. The woman from Val Gardena left one target and crossed the finish line 1:18.7 minutes behind Neuner. 19-year-old Dorothea Wierer from Rasen took 46th place, Karin Oberhofer from Feldthurns was 58th with three shooting errors. Katja Haller from Ridnaun, however, gave up after she started shooting with seven errors.
