Germany also hits in the men's relay - “Azzurri” in twelfth place

The “Azzurri” line-up consisted of Christian De Lorenzi, Lukas Hofer, Thomas Bormolini and Dominik Windisch. Starting runner De Lorenzi finished his section 31,3 seconds behind and sent Hofer into the race in ninth place. He started a strong race to catch up and was able to impress both on the cross-country ski trail and at the shooting range - he only needed a reloader.

The Montaler made up position after position. He even led the “Azzurri” into the medal ranks and handed over to Thomas Bormolini in second place, just 0,7 seconds behind the French, who had meanwhile been leading. However, the young biathlete from Livigno had to go into the penalty loop in the prone position and thus lost touch with the leaders. Bormolini finished his section in 14th place, 2:15,8 minutes behind, while final runner Dominik Windisch then led the “Azzurri” to twelfth place.

“Unfortunately, my best performance only came in the last World Championship race. Today I was very fast and things also went well at the shooting range. The broken stick? I have no idea what happened, at some point I had nothing left in my hand,” said Hofer after the race.

De Lorenzi, Hofer, Bormolini and Windisch were 3:03,2 minutes behind the new world champion Germany, who prevailed in 1:13.49,5 hours with Erik Lesser, Daniel Böhm, Arnd Peiffer and Simon Schempp. Silver went to Norway (with Ole Einar Björndalen, Tarjei Boe, Johannes Thingnes Boe and Emil Hegle Svendsen). The French secured bronze (with Simon Fourcade, Jean Guillaume Beatrix, Quentin Fillon Maillet and Martin Fourcade).

Germany also hits in the men's relay - “Azzurri” in twelfth place

After the women's sensational bronze medal win on Friday, the Italian men's relay team had to settle for twelfth place today at the World Championships in Kontiolahti, Finland. As with the women, the victory went to Germany.
