The biathletes want to repeat the miracle of Sochi in Kontiolahti

The time has finally come: tomorrow at 17.15:XNUMX p.m. the starting signal for the international title fights for biathletes will be given with the mixed relay. Italy will field the same quartet that won the bronze medal at the Winter Olympics in Sochi last year, namely Dorothea Wierer, Karin Oberhofer, Dominik Windisch and Lukas Hofer.

In addition to the four local ski hunters, another South Tyrolean will be at the start in Kontiolahti: Federica Sanfilippo, who is currently competing at the IBU Cup in Canmore and will travel directly to Finland from there. The Italian selection is completed by Christian De Lorenzi, Thomas Bormolini, Nicole Gontier and Lisa Vitozzi.

In 2011, 25-year-old Montaler came third in the mass start in Khanty-Mansiysk, Russia. “We were able to prepare very well for these title fights first in Norway and then in Antholz. I am very confident. We hope to be at the forefront, especially in the mass start and mixed relay,” Hofer explained recently.

Wierer and Oberhofer are only missing the famous cherry on the cake The two South Tyroleans were undoubtedly one of the big surprises of the World Cup season so far. Now Dorothea Wierer and Karin Oberhofer also want to cause a sensation at the World Cup. Wierer took second place in the sprint at the World Cup races in Pokljuka and Oberhofer and also climbed onto the podium in third place in the pursuit race in Östersund.

Oberhofer, however, only had to admit defeat to the Finn Kaisa Mäkäräinen in the sprint in Hochfilzen and came second. The two South Tyroleans can definitely be expected to achieve a top placement in the title fights in Finland.

In the relay, Wierer and Oberhofer already have a World Cup medal in their pockets. In 2013 in Nove Mesto they surprisingly won bronze in the women's 4x6 km race (with Michela Ponza from Val Gardena and Nicole Gontier).
