The biathlon stars are already in Antholz - video

As usual, Antholz presented itself from its best side at the start today. In bright sunshine and no wind, the top athletes completed their first training sessions in the South Tyrol Arena. There are also two training sessions on the program for tomorrow, Wednesday, January 19th. The men train between 10 a.m. and 12 p.m., and the biathletes do their laps from 13.30:16 p.m. to 16 p.m. before a test competition takes place at 17 p.m. The starting numbers will be drawn at XNUMX p.m.

The first race, however, will take place on Thursday, January 20th. The men will compete in a 14.30-kilometer sprint race at 10:254 p.m. In this discipline, the Norwegian overall World Cup leader Tarjei Boe has been the most diligent point collector with 204 points, ahead of his compatriot Emil Hegle Svendsen 168 and the German Michael Greis (XNUMX).

With Lukas Hofer in fifth place, who collected 157 points, an “Azzurro” is also in the top positions in the overall sprint ranking. The two local heroes Markus Windisch and Daniel Taschler will also be at the start.

On Friday the women will take part in the competition for the first time. The biathletes also compete in a sprint competition over 7,5 kilometers. With Katja Haller, Michela Ponza and Karin Oberhofer, four South Tyroleans are at the start. Dorothea Wierer, on the other hand, is preparing for the Junior World Championships in Nove Mesto, which is on the program next week.

But Antholz is not just a race because of its sporting competitions. Petra Frey will provide the atmosphere in the stadium on Thursday, and the South Tyrolean Spitzbuam will be performing in the tent. During the World Cup week, Marc Pircher, Peter Wackel and Bernhard Brink will also be keeping the atmosphere in the stadium, while in addition to the Spitzbuam, the group “Merrick” will also be performing in the tent.
