The biathlon stars are already training in South Tyrol

While the stands are still being worked on in the winter sports center near Lake Antholz, snow groomers are in use and fences are being erected, the first World Cup participants are already doing their training laps on South Tyrolean snow.

Mäkäräinen and Eckhoff on the World Cup trail Last week, Kaisa Mäkäräinen, one of the most experienced and successful biathletes of the last two decades, trained in the Puster side valley. “It's wonderful here, the training is going great. “I’m looking forward to the World Cup,” said the Finn, who also covers countless kilometers of training on the cross-country ski trails around Toblach. Tiril Eckhoff, the overall World Cup leader and long-term rival of Dorothea Wierer, also recently arrived in Antholz. The Norwegian is – like numerous other top biathletes – a regular training guest in Antholz.

On Thursday, Eckhoff and her teammates will move to the biathlon center in Martelltal. The Norwegian men who are currently completing a high-altitude training camp on the Seiser Alm also follow her there. The World Cup participants from Austria and the USA are also rehearsing for an emergency in Martell.

Denise Hermann and the German biathletes, on the other hand, are heading from the Seiser Alm to Ridnaun, where athletes from other nations are also working on their World Cup form.

South Tyrol's cross-country ski trails already have a hint of top international sport 8 days before the ceremonial opening of the Biathlon World Championships in Antholz (February 12th to 23rd).
