The Italian women's relay team finishes on the podium

First place in Pokljuka, first place in Ruhpolding and first place in Antholz. The German women's team continued their winning streak in the third season and ensured the conclusion of the German festival in the Puster Valley. The black, red and gold biathletes won four of the six races at the foot of Hochgall.

In the final season, Vanessa Hinz, Maren Hammerschmidt, Franziska Hildebrand and Laura Dahlmeier needed a total of twelve spare rounds, but did not have to go into the penalty loop once. The lead, which the final runner Dahlmeier brought to the finish, was a whopping 24 seconds. Second place went to the French relay team, which had six fewer missed shots, but was significantly slower on the cross-country ski trail.

“Azzurre” cause cheers in the Südtirol Arena

An exciting battle for third place on the podium developed behind Germany and France. Dorothea Wierer won this in a duel with the Ukrainian Anastasiya Merkushyna. Federica Sanfilippo, who started the race in second place, put Italy on course for the podium before Alexia Runggaldier handed over to Wierer in fifth place. The racer finally left two rivals behind her. This is the “Azzurre”’s first top-three placement of the current season. Runggaldier, who finished sensationally in third place in the individual competition, crowned her Antholz weekend with another podium finish.

The Antholz Biathlon Week came to an end on Sunday with the women's relay competition. These are the reactions of the biathletes from the three teams that made it to the podium in the South Tyrolean biathlon mecca.

Franziska Hildebrand (Germany): Three relay competitions this season, three wins – so we are of course the big favorites at the World Cup. I think we are strong enough as a team to be able to handle the pressure.

Dorothea Wierer (Italy, 3rd place): I was very nervous at the shooting range in the last few days, but I felt very comfortable on the skis, as I did recently. Today the shooting went better in the end and I'm obviously very pleased that we're on the podium.

Alexia Runggaldier (Italy, 3rd place): I don't really have a home advantage in Antholz because, to be honest, I don't train here that often. I started too fast today and that had a negative effect on the shooting range. But Dorothea did a great job at the end, third place in the relay is a great result.

The Italian women's relay team finishes on the podium
