The ski hunters point their guns again

For the biathletes things are now happening in quick succession: three absolute World Cup classics await in the next few weeks, then they'll go straight to the Olympic Games in South Korea. The time has also come for local athletes to tighten the reins again and tackle the “hottest” time of the year with full vigor.

Wierer is back in full swing

After alternating individual and team training, Dorothea Wierer and Co. want to put the slow start to the season behind them and start hunting for podium finishes in Oberhof. Only Wierer has managed to climb onto the podium in an individual competition so far this winter, coming third in the Hochfilzen Sprint. She was slowed down again by the flu shortly before Christmas, but is now back in full swing in time for the next World Cup sprint in Oberhof. She will tackle this together with Federica Sanfilippo from Ridnaun Valley, who is still waiting for a top placement this season. Lisa Vittozzi and Nicole Gontier are also part of the Italian women's squad. The latter is celebrating her season debut in the World Cup and will take the place of Alexia Runggaldier in the final relay on Sunday, who is also skipping the Oberhof stage and continuing her individual training at home.

Windisch looking for consistency

For the men, however, the two South Tyroleans Dominik Windisch and Lukas Hofer, as well as Thomas Bormolini, Giuseppe Montello and Thierry Chenal were nominated for the East Germany race. For Windisch in particular, it is primarily about confirming his very good performances before Christmas in France and finding consistent results.

The men start the sprint on Friday. The next day there are two pursuit races on the program before the team competition on Sunday for World Cup points.

The biathletes had two and a half weeks to breathe and recharge their batteries for the January highlights in Oberhof, Ruhpolding and Antholz. It starts on Thursday at the winter sports center in Thuringia.
