Dominik Windisch: “I can only recommend this adventure”

Dominik Windisch recently completed a route on the Stoneman Dolomiti. In this project, which was launched by ex-mountain bike professional Roland Stauder, the aim is to complete a given route and reach checkpoints in order to get a starter card stamped there. Windisch completed the so-called Stoneman Hike (as a mountain runner, so to speak). The circuit is 56 kilometers long and covers 3.350 meters of altitude. “I initially wanted to do the mountain bike route, but I've been putting a little too much strain on my knee lately. That's why I chose the trail running route. It was wonderful and at the same time a personal challenge that also required perseverance,” explains Windisch in a telephone conversation SportNews . The following applies to the Stoneman Dolomiti: Anyone who completes the challenge in one, two or three days will be registered as a finisher on the homepage and can receive a unique Stoneman trophy, which Roland Stauder created and handcrafts especially for this project , receive. Windisch started at 6 a.m. in the Nordic Arena in Toblach and completed the entire round in a total of 11 hours. “I took a little detour over the summit of the Lungkofel. From there you get a nice overview of the entire route and I was also able to take some cool drone shots. Windisch explains that for each route you complete, you receive a stone in addition to the trophy, which you can use to build a stone man (Stoneman in English) or a cairn at the end. “I can only recommend this adventure. You don’t need to put yourself under time pressure either, as the panorama of the Dolomites is just something to enjoy.” Looking ahead to the Olympic season With a view to the coming winter, the Olympic Games in Beijing are the focus of many biathletes' preparations. Windisch says: “Of course the Olympics are the main goal. But it is difficult to program everything in one place. That’s why I don’t want to fixate too much on the Olympics, but I want to give the World Cup the same importance.”

The 31-year-old wants to improve compared to last season. This didn't go as planned for Windisch. “It started with that Confusion about my corona test , because of which I missed the first weekend in Kontiolahti.” But he can also take positive things from his mixed season: “As an athlete, you always learn the most from phases like these and get to know yourself even better.”
