Dominik Windisch shines at the end

The Pusterer showed once again that he is an excellent wind shooter. In extremely difficult conditions during the last standing stage, Windisch was one of very few athletes who remained clean and thus managed to reach fifth place in the end. This is by far Windisch's best result of the season. Previously this had been a 5th place in the Ruhpolding sprint.

In the end, Windisch was almost half a minute short of a medal. With a total of 3 errors, he was one of the best shooters on Friday at the Guyangshu Biathlon Center. On the final lap, Windisch defended his 5th place by overtaking the Norwegian Sturla Holm Lægreid shortly before the home straight. An excellent result for the 32-year-old, who is always in top form at major events - even if there was no medal at these games. Fillon Maillet misses record Johannes Thingnes Bø took gold at the end. The Norwegian won his 5th medal in Beijing and his 4th gold. Bø won clearly ahead of the Swede Martin Ponsiluoma and his compatriot Vetle Sjåstad Christiansen.

France's Quentin Fillon Maillet came in 4th, missing his 6th Olympic medal in China by 13 seconds. With another medal he would have made Olympic history. No one has ever won 6 medals at the Winter Games. But Fillon Maillet missed 3 times in the last standing stage and missed his entry into the history books.

Lukas Hofer, however, didn't get up to speed on Friday. He crossed the finish line with a total of 6 errors and had to settle for 27th place. Things also didn't go as planned for Dorothea Wierer in the women's mass start. The sprint bronze medalist was at the bottom of the rankings ( SportNews berichtete ).
