Dorothea Wierer 2nd at the IBU Roller Cup in Forni Avoltri

At the start of the weekend in the Italian north-east there was a sprint competition, which was clearly dominated by the athletes from Poland. Krystyna Palka won by a narrow margin ahead of 22-year-old Dorothea Wierer, who was only 1,9 seconds behind, third and fourth places went to biathletes from the Polish association: Agnieszka Cyl took third place, Paulina Bobak had to come just behind in fourth place to be satisfied.

Meanwhile, Monika Hojnisz celebrated an impressive victory in the junior women's category: Despite three penalties, she was a good three and a half minutes faster than Lisa Vittozzi from Italy (she was, in a sense, competing in a home race in Forni Avoltri). Third place went to the lively Swiss Ladina Meier-Ruge.

Maicol Demetz prevails among the juniors The Slovenian Peter Dokl had previously held his own in the men's race. The winner was the only one in the entire field of participants who remained flawless at the shooting range and relegated the Italians Christian Martinelli and Pietro Dutto to the ranks of honor. In the absence of Lukas Hofer, who will be on duty in Püttlingen, Germany tomorrow, Markus Windisch was the best South Tyrolean in fourth place.

In the juniors, Italy celebrated a triple victory with Maicol Demetz from Val Gardena, Einar Carrara and Benjamin Plaickner. Tomorrow the pursuit races will take place in Forni Avoltri.
