Dorothea Wierer: “I’m getting older too”

The past few weeks, in which Wierer had to fight to stay at the top, have not left the 30-year-old from Puster unscathed. She is now drawing conclusions and wants to spend the Christmas holidays differently than in previous years.

After the convincing 3rd place At the end of the World Cup stage in North Tyrol, Wierer presented himself in a good mood at the video press conference. “I started the season with a win, but my form wasn't good at the beginning. Since I've been in Hochfilzen, however, I've felt better from race to race," said Wierer, who spoke openly about unusual weaknesses at the shooting range: "Recently things were going better and better on the cross-country ski trail, but mostly I made one mistake too many. This season the level is so high that I let myself be put under too much pressure at the shooting range. I’m very happy that the last standing attempt worked today.”

For Wierer, her memorable year 2020, which delivered several absolute highlights with the two world championship titles in Antholz and winning the big crystal ball again, ended with another podium finish, the 2nd of this season. After the race in Hochfilzen, it was time for her to draw a short interim conclusion: “We didn't have the best preparation because we weren't on skis much. Then I missed a training camp in October because I wasn't feeling well. It was all very stressful and I was very tired in the fall. “I’m getting older and need more time to relax than the younger people,” says Wierer with a wink. “I’m not as strong as I was last year at the moment.” Dorothea Wierer Now South Tyrol's model athlete believes she is on the right path: “It's getting better and better. I'm moving in the right direction, especially on the cross-country ski trail. However, I have to say that I'm not as strong as I was last year at the moment." In order for that to change as quickly as possible, she wants to pull the plug first, but then put in a few extra shifts over the Christmas holidays. “I will certainly try special training so that I can come back even better in 2021,” said Wierer, with a view to the upcoming season highlights in January.
