Dorothea Wierer runs onto the podium

The 26-year-old from South Tyrol put in a really strong performance on the 10-kilometer route and immediately gained position after position. Inspired by her flawless performance in the four shooting sessions (20 hits in 20 attempts), she quickly moved into the top field. After the last shooting she even went back to the trail in second place, but then had to let Laura Dahlmeier pass. In the end, the German took second place behind the confident winner Gabriela Koukalova. This was the Czech woman's 13th World Cup victory. Wierer, however, defended third place and thus completed her second podium finish of the season, after last weekend with the mixed relay.

Wierer draws level with Santer

With this result, Wierer made it onto the podium in the Östersund Pursuit for the third time in a row and at the same time equaled Nathalie Santer's record. Both the woman from Niederrasner and the former biathlete from Dobbiaco now have 15 individual “Stockerl” placements to their credit. “I am very happy to have set this record. But I certainly won't rest on my laurels. On the contrary: I want to do a lot more and continue to improve,” said Wierer after the race. However, she is not the only local biathlete who made it into the points in the pursuit. Alexia Runggaldier also achieved a small respectable success in 35th place. Meanwhile, there was nothing to gain for Federica Sanfilippo, who barely got above 60th place. Karin Oberhofer was not at the start.
