Eckhoff on Nilsson: “Don’t envy her”

Exactly three months ago, Stina Nilsson dropped the bombshell and announced that she was changing sports. Since then, the soon-to-be 27-year-old has been in the spotlight almost every day in her home country and beyond. Understandable, because so far no Olympic cross-country skiing champion has dared to take this courageous step. But Nilsson is looking for a challenge - and can obviously handle the hype around her well: "I live in the present and take situations as they come," she emphasizes when asked about the pressure to succeed.

Tiril Eckhoff was also confronted with a lot of expectations before the 2015 World Cup in Oslo, which she had to suffer from. “There is a lot of pressure depending on whether you do well or poorly,” the 30-year-old told Norwegian Radio NRK : “Maybe it doesn’t matter to her (Nilsson, editor’s note), but I don’t envy her.” Eckhoff has a lot of confidence in Nilsson In any case, she is happy that Nilsson is attracting all the attention. “Then I can do my usual job. “Sometimes it’s good to be anonymous and not always be in the public eye,” says Eckhoff.

The Swede's biathlon debut is scheduled for August 28th, when the Swedish Summer Championships take place. However, Eckhoff already knows that Nilsson will stand up to her in the winter: “There is a very good chance that she will become one of my toughest competitors. I bet she has some good shooting skills.”
