A young Trentino man amazes in the pursuit of Östersund

Tommaso Giacomel started the race in 26th place after the sprint. The 21-year-old from Trentino, who attended the sports high school in Mals, delivered an almost perfect pursuit competition (only one miss) and ended up in 7th place. It was almost enough for 4th place, but Giacomel had to beat Michal Krcmar on the home straight (Czech Republic), Tero Seppälä (Finland) and the Austrian Simon Eder were narrowly defeated.

With 7th place, Giacomel also left overall World Cup winner Johannes Thingnes Bø (8th place) behind. This is his first top ten result in the World Cup. Giacomel had already proven during the sprint on Thursday that he would be a force to be reckoned with this year. Despite two mistakes, he ended up in 26th place. Also in the Giacomel showed a strong performance on Saturday and was the best Azzurro. He more than demonstrated this strong form in the pursuit on Sunday. A Norwegian wins Victory went to Norwegian Vetle Sjåstad Christiansen, who, unlike his competitors Sebastian Samuelsson and Emilien Jaquelin, shot clean in the final shooting. This is the second World Cup victory for Christiansen. Second place went to Samuelsson, who left Jacquelin behind on the home straight.

Lukas Hofer, who started the pursuit in 7th place, had to settle for 20th place. The Montaler made three mistakes in the second shooting. So all hopes of another top ranking were quickly gone. Dominik Windisch, who like Hofer had to go into the penalty loop a total of 2 times, worked his way up from 4th place to 55nd place. But there are no World Cup points for this.

The biathlon entourage is now moving on to Hochfilzen. It starts there on Friday (11.25 a.m.) with a men's sprint.
