A world champion celebrates in Antholz

Johannes Thingnes Bø, who was crowned mass start world champion last year, was the absolute star of the last men's competition in Antholz. He was the only athlete in the 30-strong field without missing a single shot. In the end, only the French outsider Quentin Fillon Maillet could stand up to him on the cross-country ski trail, but even he had to give up in the last kilometer. Bø crossed the finish line with a lead of 3,7 seconds. The 23-year-old Norwegian celebrated his second podium finish within 24 hours after taking second place in the relay on Saturday.

In the end, Fillon Maillet secured second place ahead of Anton Shipulin. The Russian individual competition winner on Friday missed once at the shooting range - just like his French rival. He left Emil Hegle Svendsen and World Cup dominator Martin Fourcade behind him. This is Shipulin's eighth individual podium in Antholz.

Windisch missed the top ten Italy's only starter, Dominik Windisch, had an extremely difficult situation on Sunday. The local hero from Rasen had to go into the penalty loop three times, but in the end he was still able to make up numerous positions and ultimately score 29 World Cup points in twelfth place.

The Antholz World Cup stage will conclude with the women's relay on Sunday afternoon (14.45:XNUMX p.m.).

Quentin Fillon Maillet: “I'm disappointed that it wasn't enough to win today. However, I have to admit that Johannes was simply stronger in this race. I gave it my all and showed that my form was right.”

Anton Shipulin: “After a strenuous week, I tried to mobilize the last reserves of strength I had left. I succeeded. More was simply not possible against such extremely strong competitors. The two podium finishes here in Antholz make me very positive about the upcoming World Championships in Hochfilzen.”

Dominik Windisch: “After my two mistakes in the first shooting, I just couldn’t do it anymore. You won't be forgiven for mistakes like that in biathlon. Other than that, I'm very happy with my performance. Just because I was on the podium twice in Oberhof doesn't mean I'm going to raise my expectations straight away. The performance density this season is simply too tight for that.”
