Places 52, 66 and 73 – yes, the local biathletes had to take a big beating in the first individual competition of the season. The decisive factor for the weak results was the error-prone shooting performance of Dorothea Wierer, Alexia Runggaldier and Federica Sanfilippo, which is fatal in an individual race as there is a penalty minute for every missed shot.

Dorothea Wierer in particular, who won sensationally in Östersund two years ago, must have expected a lot more: the woman from Niederrasner made two mistakes in the first shooting and missed three more targets in the further course of the race. With five missed shots, she fell back to 52nd place in the rankings.

From a South Tyrolean perspective, Wierer was the best off: Alexia Runggaldier only missed the mark three times, but had difficulties on the cross-country ski trail and ended up in 66th place. Even with Federica Sanfilippo, little or nothing went together, as four tickets and 73rd place prove. The honor of the “Azzurri” was saved by Lisa Vittozzi, who ended up in 21st place.

Surprise podium Three surprises made themselves comfortable on the podium: Nadezhda Skardino from Belarus, whose best result so far was second place in the Antholz sprint in 2014, won her first World Cup race. Behind them are the Norwegian Synnoeve Solemdal (+2,9 seconds) and the Ukrainian Yulia Dzhima (+12,0 seconds).

It continues in Östersund on Thursday with the men's individual race at 17.15:17.45 p.m. The women will be seen again in the sprint on Friday (XNUMX p.m.).
