Fourcade's triumphant answer in Antholz – Windisch 8.

At the end of this year's World Cup stage, the biathletes in the South Tyrol Arena once again offered impressive performances - especially Martin Fourcade, who was determined to end the seven-year dry spell in the South Tyrolean biathlon stronghold. In front of 22.000 enthusiastic spectators, he never really let any doubts about his victory arise. Although he made a mistake in the second and fourth shooting, he made up for them on the cross-country ski trail and was ultimately the first to cross the finish line. This is only the second success in Antholz for the 29-year-old exceptional talent from the Pyrenees.

Fourcade's worst opponent today was Bø, but not Johannes Thingnes, but his older brother Tarjei. On the final lap he had a thrilling duel with his Norwegian teammate Erlend Bjøntegaard. In the end, both were able to celebrate: Bø about second place, Bjøntegaard about his first ever podium finish in the World Cup. The two Scandinavians each completed two penalty laps - as did the two Germans Benedikt Doll and Johannes Kühn, who took fourth and fifth place. Johannes Thingnes Bø had to settle for sixth place after five missed shots. He is still in second place in the overall World Cup behind Fourcade.

Windisch runs into the top ten

Rasner local hero Dominik Windisch also achieved a top placing. He crossed the finish line in eighth place and was pleased with his third top ten result of the current season. He would have been able to do even more if he hadn't left four discs standing. Windisch only made no mistakes in the first prone position.

The second South Tyrolean, Lukas Hofer from Montal, even missed five times at the shooting range. In the end he had to settle for 25th place, but in eighth place he is still clearly the best “Azzurro” in the overall World Cup.

The Biathlon World Cup is now on pause until the beginning of March. Now everything is focused on the Olympic competitions starting February 10th in South Korea.
