French Festival in Östersund – South Tyroleans rejected

At the weekend, the World Cup opener in Östersund, Sweden had South Tyrol's biathletes with one Winning the mixed relay as well as the Success of Dorothea Wierer Started brilliantly, but Lukas Hofer and Dominik Windisch had nothing to gain from the individual race on Wednesday.

Despite a strong performance on the cross-country ski trail, Hofer had to settle for 19th place this time, while Windisch finished distant in 48th place. The South Tyroleans made a mistake, especially at the shooting range: 5 missed shots each and therefore 5 penalty minutes were too many for a top result.

The victory went to the Frenchman Martin Fourcade, who only made one mistake on the shooting range. His compatriot Simon Desthieux took second place (+2 seconds/12,7 error). Quentin Fillon Maillet (+1/1.50,8) completed the monotonous podium with third place. With Émilien Jacquelin (+8/3), another Frenchman ended up in fourth place.

Hofer strong on the trails, weak on the shooting range Lukas Hofer started the race strongly with number 4, ran quickly and came to the first prone with a good time. He missed a target and had to accept a penalty minute. After the standing stage, Hofer finally had to give up all hopes of a top place. The 30-year-old missed the target 3 times and fell far behind. In the third shooting, the Montaler made a mistake while lying down, and at least in the fourth and final shooting, Hofer got through standing without any mistakes. But it was no longer enough for a better result than 19th place.

At least Hofer showed a strong performance on the difficult route; no one else in the top 30 had to accept a full 5 minute penalty. Overall, it was the third fastest time on the trail - only Fourcade and Fillon Maillet were better. Windishly knocked off Dominik Windisch, who started the race with start number 22, also had difficulty running from the start. After the prone stage, where he left a target, the 30-year-old was already 1.32 minutes behind the Norwegian Johannes Thingnes Bø, who was leading at the time. Windisch also received a penalty minute in the first standing stage. In the third shooting he made two mistakes and in the last one once. Ultimately, the racer finished the race in 2th place.

Spectators experienced festivals in blue, white and red at the Biathlon World Cup on Wednesday in Östersund, Sweden. Martin Fourcade led a French quadruple victory. For the South Tyroleans Lukas Hofer and Dominik Windisch, however, there was nothing to gain.
