It wasn't an easy competition on Saturday. Difficult wind conditions at the shooting range ensured that the pursuit turned into a festival of mistakes. Lukas Hofer, who also started the pursuit from this position after his 14th place in the sprint, showed strongly at the beginning. In the first two shooting sessions (both lying down) he didn't make a single mistake and worked his way up to third place.

A top result was within reach - also because the top athletes around Johannes Thingnes Bø were struggling with difficulties. But in each of the two standing shots, Hofer missed twice and was passed to the back. In the end, the biathlete from Montal finished 2th. Although it wasn't a top result, Hofer showed with this new solid placement that he is already on the right track in this early phase of the season. Incidentally, Hofer was the only South Tyrolean at the start on Saturday: Dominik Windisch and Patrick Braunhofer were unable to qualify for the pursuit. It was precisely this pursuit that produced a new winning face on Saturday: Sebastian Samuelsson won his first World Cup race. The 23-year-old Swede started the competition in 18th place, but - in contrast to his competitors - kept his perspective on the shooting range and only missed one of 20 shots. In the end, Samuelsson was 15 seconds faster than the Frenchman Fabien Claude (3 shooting errors), who in turn snaked past Johannes Thingnes Bø in the final lap. The Norwegian series winner (3 shooting errors) had to settle for third place.
