Furious: Passler, Wierer and Co. grab the relay podium

The first podium finish for Italy's women's relay team this season has been secured! Led by the two outstanding South Tyroleans Rebecca Passler and Dorothea Wierer, the Azzurre sprinted to third place. For the 3-year-old Passler, it is the first World Cup podium ever in her career. The quartet was only beaten by the French, who clinched victory ahead of the Swedes.

Starting runner Rebecca Passler did her job excellently. With her usual confidence when shooting prone, she left the shooting range in fifth place. She ran her second lap carefully, staying in the slipstream of her group around France and Germany. While standing, she turned on the turbo and knocked down all the targets in 18 seconds of pure shooting time. On her final lap, Passler lost some time against the Swede Linn Persson and handed over to Dorothea Wierer, 15,9 seconds behind.

Wierer showed a perfect race. Lying down and standing, she remained in her usual rapid fire without making any mistakes and was also at a very good level when it came to running. In the lead, “Doro” switched to Samuela Comola, 12,8 seconds ahead. “Today it was an almost perfect race - it would be nice if it could go like that every time. Yesterday I had problems while shooting standing and started shaking, today it went really well,” said Wierer, assessing her performance.

True crime at the last shooting Samuela Comola also showed a good race and achieved zero lying down. Comola's first missed shot for the Italians came from a standing position. However, she left it at that one and went into her final lap in the lead. Followed closely by the Frenchwoman Chloe Chevalier and the strong running Hanna Öberg. On the cross-country ski trail, Comola couldn't quite keep up with the fastest, losing 26 seconds on Öberg and slipping to fourth place.

Final runner Vittozzi once again demonstrated her excellent condition; the athlete from Sappada/Plodn, who has regained her strength this year, is in third place in the overall World Cup. She had to reload once in the unpopular prone position and took to the track almost at the same time as the German Denise Herrmann-Wick, almost 15 seconds behind the leading duo Elvira Öberg (Sweden) and Julia Simon (France).

In the decisive standing stage, only the overall World Cup leader Simon made no mistakes. Behind her, Öberg and Vittozzi each missed once, while Herrmann-Wick needed two spares and was therefore no longer able to intervene in the race for the podium.

Vittozzi had no chance against the top runner Öberg on the cross-country ski trail, but was able to defend third place against Germany. At the front, the staggering Simon narrowly achieved victory against the onrushing Öberg.

What a brilliant race by the Italian biathlon relay in Hochfilzen: With the cast of Rebecca Passler, Dorothea Wierer, Samuela Comola and Lisa Vittozzi, the quartet was in the lead for a long time and was able to bring home the podium place after a thriller in the last standing stage.
