Garanichev and Neuner dominate the sprints in Oslo

The women were the first to hit the trails on Thursday: Magdalena Neuner once again delivered an outstanding performance and secured her 30th World Cup victory in her farewell season. The 24-year-old made no mistakes at the shooting range and finished the race after 20:41.9 minutes. Second-placed Darja Domratscheva crossed the finish line 38.2 seconds behind, followed by Tora Berger from Norway.

Katja Haller came in 22nd as the best “Azzurra”. She lost more than two minutes to nine. Michela Ponza (47th) and Dorothea Wierer (50th) placed further back.

In the men's category, however, there was no way around the Russian Evgeniy Garanichev. He relegated the German Arnd Peiffer and the Norwegian Emil Svendsen to second and third place in the final sprint. Christian De Lorenzi narrowly missed making it into the top 10 in eleventh place. The only South Tyrolean in the race, Markus Windisch, took 30th place.

Garanichev and Neuner dominate the sprints in Oslo

The seventh stage of the Biathlon World Cup in Oslo opened with the men's and women's sprint races. Evgeniy Garanichev and Magdalena Neuner were in a class of their own.
