Weakened immune system: Dahlmeier out of action

The German Ski Association announced on Monday that the Bavarian's immune system was weakened due to various health setbacks and that the 25-year-old would first have to fully recover. It is therefore questionable whether Dahlmeier will be fit in time for the start of the World Cup in Pokljuka (December 2nd to 9th).

“Looked at individually, the various difficulties were not particularly serious, and I was actually quite confident that I had coped well with the stressful Olympic season,” said Dahlmeier: “But every time I thought that things were finally looking up, that happened straight away next infection or another health problem. That’s why the last few weeks haven’t been easy for me.”

Dahlmeier, who won gold in the sprint and pursuit at the Pyeongchang Winter Games, suffered a cut to her thigh in a cycling accident in July. Shortly afterwards she had to slow down due to wisdom tooth surgery, and a long-term infection ultimately put her out of action. For this reason, she was not able to complete all of the units on the course in Hochfilzen as planned.

“The various health problems of the past few months have resulted in Laura’s immune system currently being quite weakened,” said DSV team doctor Klaus-Jürgen Marquardt. For Dahlmeier, “high intensities, large training volumes or stress are absolutely counterproductive in the current situation.”
