Giacomel crowns his fantastic season

With the single mixed relay, Giacomel was on the podium at the Biathlon World Championships in Oberhof. This has already worked in the World Cup (Pokljuka), but so far it has not been successful in an individual race - until Thursday, March 9, 2023. The Azzurro will mark this day very heavily in the calendar. At the individual competition in Östersund, Giacomel made it onto the podium for the first time in his World Cup career. Behind winner Benedikt Doll (GER) and ahead of Vetle Sjastaad Christiansen (NOR/3rd) we finished second.

Sixth-best running time, plus only one penalty minute due to a shooting error: Tommaso Giacomel delivered a brilliant performance in the individual competition in Östersund. The reward is his first podium finish – excluding relays – in the Biathlon World Cup. So far, two 5th places (pursuit in Pokljuka and individual in Ruhpolding) were his best World Cup results.

Patrick Braunhofer also has reason to be happy. The man from Ridnaun achieved his best World Cup result with 19th place. Just like Giacomel, the South Tyrolean only made one shooting error, but he lost a lot of time on the cross-country ski trail (47th best running time). Didier Bionaz was also strong, finishing in 17th place with two penalties at the shooting range.
