Youth World Championships: Linda Zingerle sprints to gold

Linda had Zingerle with her two weeks ago Gold and Silver make people sit up and take notice at the Youth Olympic Games. Back then there were relays in which Andreas Zingerle's daughter won precious metal, this time she managed it in an individual competition, namely in the sprint at the Youth World Championships.

Impressive competition From the start, the small but extremely wiry biathlete ran away from the front, dictated the pace on the demanding course and hit everything in the first shooting. She then easily dealt with the one penalty lap in the standing position and stormed into the final lap with a lead, where she was able to step up her game again and secure gold with a lead of 20,8 seconds over the second-placed Russian Liubov Kalinina. The very strong Frenchwoman Oceane Michelon came third.

“I decided to set a good pace from the start. And at the shooting range I acted quickly and, above all, without fear,” said the new youth world champion, summing up her triumph. The other South Tyroleans are also strong In Zingerle's wake, the other athletes from Mirco Romanin's team, Fabio Cianciana and Edo Mezzaro also ended up in the top field. Hannah Auchentaller (1 mistake) missed the flower ceremony by a few seconds in 7th place, Rebecca Passler came 2th despite her 13 penalty laps, and Martina Trabucchi (also with one mistake) also reached 18th place. By the way, the race took place in front of the family members of the “Antholz Trio”, who were of course overjoyed to congratulate their daughters.

In the morning there was the sprint competition for the male youth. The victory went to the Russian Aleksei Kovalev ahead of Ondrej Manek from the Czech Republic and the Alaska boy Maxime Germain. The best Azzurro was Elia Zeni from Trentino. He finished 16th.
