Magnificent Lukas Hofer is back on the podium

Martin Fourcade, Lukas Hofer and Johannes Thingnes Bö. These three athletes stood at Pursuit race last Saturday at Holmenkollen on the podium. And it was precisely these athletes who also fought for the “Stockerl” places in the pursuit in Tyumen. In the snow-covered winter sports center in Siberia, the South Tyrolean once again stood up to the two best biathletes in the world, but this time Bö and Hofer swapped places.

The 28-year-old Montaler delivered an outstanding performance over the entire race distance and, after finishing 13th in the sprint, gained no fewer than ten positions. At the shooting range he delivered 20 direct hits in a row, on the cross-country ski trail he left one competitor after another standing and finally crossed the finish line in third place.

Fourcade like from another planet Only the two World Cup dominators were faster than Hofer in the penultimate race of the season: Fourcade also finished on the podium in his 20th World Cup start this winter and celebrated his ninth victory of the season ahead of his long-term rival from Norway. Meanwhile, the third-placed Pusterer was happy about the fifth top-three result of his career, which catapulted him to fifth place in the overall World Cup.

The second South Tyrolean, the two-time Olympic medalist Dominik Windisch, had to settle for 18th place in the Tyumen pursuit. He went into the penalty loop three times.

On Sunday the biathletes will compete in a mass start race at the end of the World Cup season.
