Great women's relay in 2nd place just behind Germany

The “Azzurre” owe their top result primarily to their shooting performance. Vittozzi, Wierer, Gontier and Sanfilippo only needed three spares in total, fewer than any other team.

Vittozzi, Wierer and Sanfilippo error-free

First up was Lisa Vittozzi from Veneto, who did an excellent job both at the shooting range and on the cross-country ski trail and handed over the lead to Wierer, just under five seconds ahead of Germany.

“Doro” also made no mistakes at the shooting range, but had to narrowly let the German squadron pass. Wierer finally handed over to Gontier, three seconds behind Germany.

Nicole Gontier from Aostan did an excellent job in the prone shooting and remained clean. It was only in the standing shooting that her nerves began to flare. However, at least with the three spares she managed to avoid the penalty loop. At the change, Gontier handed over in fifth place behind Switzerland, Sweden, France and Germany.

The brilliant performance of Federica Sanfilippo

Federica Sanfilippo from Ridnaun then ran a great race. At the changeover she was three seconds behind the great Laura Dahlmeier and thanks to great shooting, the Wipptaler pulled past the other three relays in the wake of the Germans and stayed close until the end. In the end, Dahlmeier & Co. were just three seconds away from being celebrated by the Bavarian audience.

With regard to the Olympics, things can continue like this for the biathlon relays: a week ago the men's relay landed in place, this time the women's.

The two mass start races follow on Sunday in Ruhpolding.

Great women's relay in 2nd place just behind Germany

Italy's biathlon women's relay team consisting of Lisa Vittozzi, Dorothea Wierer, Nicole Gontier and Federica Sanfilippo achieved a sensational second place in Ruhpolding, just behind host country Germany. Sweden came in third place.
