Men's relay awards the medal at the shooting range

The Norwegians were in a class of their own on Saturday and won in a dominant manner ahead of Sweden and Russia. France had to settle for fourth place. The Azzurri presented themselves extremely well on the cross-country ski trail, but had to give up all medal dreams after the last shooting at the latest. In the end, Dominik Windisch led Italy across the finish line in 4th place.

Didier Bionaz did a good job as the Italian starting runner. The 21-year-old, who needed 4 spares at the shooting range, was in good form on the course and handed over to Lukas Hofer in 4th place. The Montaler missed the target 5 times, but shone on the cross-country ski trail and led Italy to second place. When he switched to Tommaso Giacomel, the gap to the leader was 2 seconds. Italy was at the forefront until the last shooting Giacomel struggled in the standing stage. The 20-year-old from Trentino even had to go into the penalty loop and fell back to 4th place. When he switched to Dominik Windisch, he was 1.15 minutes behind the leading Norwegians.

Italy's final runner made no mistakes in the prone stage, so that the Azzurri were in the fight for the medals until the last stage. But Windisch had to go into the penalty loop after the standing stage – just like Giacomel before – which meant that Italy fell back to 7th place. Italy's men's relay team missed out on a medal at the World Championships on Pokljuka, although things were looking quite good at times. Gold went to Norway.
