Heart-stopping finale: Wierer loses the red jersey

The constellation in advance promised high tension: Wierer was three points ahead of Elivra Öberg and 21 points ahead of Justine Braisaz-Bouchet in the mass start World Cup. After an extremely exciting race, the Frenchwoman had the better end for herself and took overall success in the discipline ranking with her victory of the day.

Wierer showed a perfect race for a long time and remained error-free in the first three shooting sessions. At the final standing stop, Wierer left the very last target standing. The South Tyrolean came out of the penalty loop in sixth place, but the race for the small ball was still open. Because Öberg and Braisaz-Bouchet were in seventh and first place at the time. Braisaz-Bouchet, on the other hand, was in a class of his own on the cross-country ski trail and won the mass start despite two shooting errors. In the end she won the Mass Start World Cup by two points over Öberg, who finished 5th on Sunday. A 4th place would have been enough for the young Swede, but her teammate Linn Persson, of all people, passed her on the home straight.
