Hofer as fast as an arrow, but too imprecise

It seems to be a sure-fire success again this year: seven-time overall World Cup winner Martin Fourcade also triumphed in the first individual race of the new biathlon season. Behind the Frenchman, the German Johannes Kühn (first podium of his career) and Simon Eder from Austria landed in second and third place.

The South Tyroleans Lukas Hofer and Dominik Windisch had no reason to celebrate on Thursday morning after third place at the start of the season in the mixed relay. Hofer came 27th with a total of four shooting errors. What is striking: the Montaler was extremely fast on his skis and had the second best running time. With a better shooting performance, a podium place would probably have been within reach. Windisch left three targets at the shooting range and ended up in 45th place.

The individual race was actually supposed to take place on Wednesday, but it had to be postponed to Thursday due to the thick fog.
