Hofer does it like Wierer

Dorothea Wierer had put on a great show at lunchtime, thanks to a perfect performance from the almost hopeless 17th place to the podium. Just a few hours later, Lukas Hofer enhanced this sweet biathlon day with another podium finish. The Montaler reached third place after a fantastic performance. Quentin Fillon Maillet from France once again took the win, while the German Erik Lesser came second.

Hofer already had showed in the sprint that he is in excellent shape. However, a mistake prevented him from finishing in the top three. The next day, the 32-year-old started the race with the conviction that he would grab this “lost” podium place. And that's how it finally happened: Hofer was close to the leaders at all times. Only after the second prone stage was he handed back a bit after he left the last target. But in the two standing performances he expressed his full class. Exciting final round In the best Wierer style, he folded down all the windows at great speed. Because the competition around Lesser and Vetle Sjåstad Christiansen also made no mistake, the decision was made on the final lap. Hofer tackled this seven seconds behind the previously second-placed Emilien Jacquelin, with Lesser and Christiansen following just behind the South Tyrolean. It quickly became clear that the Pusterer and the German veteran had the greater reserves of strength. On the final, steep climb, the duo distanced themselves from Jacquelin and Christiansen before sprinting on the final straight. In this, Lesser, who had recently announced his resignation, kept the better end for himself.

Meanwhile, Fillon Maillet ran a lonely race at the front. The Frenchman, who has been outstanding this season, only missed the last shot, but his victory was never in danger. Dominik Winidsch did not take part in the race because he tested positive for the coronavirus before the sprint.
