Hofer and Windisch sprint into the top ten

The two local biathlon aces offered a completely convincing performance at the start of the third-to-last World Cup stage in Lapland. Both remained flawless in the first shooting, but each had to go into the penalty loop once after the second shot. Nevertheless, they kept up with the best and made it into the top ten once again. Hofer took ninth place, sprint Olympic medalist Windisch was immediately behind in tenth place.

Shipulin wins after suspension Anton Shipulin secured victory over the 10 kilometer distance. The 30-year-old, who was not eligible to compete at the Olympics due to the Russian state doping scandal, prevailed with a 5,8 second lead over Latvian Andrejs Rastorgujevs, who also made no mistakes. The Frenchman Quentin Fillon Maillet came third.

His compatriot Martin Fourcade did not start. The five-time Olympic champion - Fourcade had won three gold medals in Pyeongchang - withdrew from the race due to a gastrointestinal upset. The Frenchman now only has a narrow lead in the overall World Cup rankings over his closest rival Johannes Thingnes Bö. The Norwegian came fourth in the Kontiolahti Sprint.

The World Cup program in the far north continues on Friday with the first women's competition.

Hofer and Windisch sprint into the top ten

South Tyrol's ski hunters continue to impress in terms of consistency after the Olympic Games: Lukas Hofer and Dominik Windisch made it into the top field at the World Cup sprint in Kontiolahti (Finland).
