IBU Cup Ridnaun: Dale and Morozova celebrate after the pursuit

Johannes Dale was the first biathlete to take to the trail in the men's pursuit competition and maintained his lead even after the first shooting. Then the 22-year-old Norwegian made a mistake and from then on Dale dueled with the Russian Babikov, who had taken second place in the sprint. Dale and Babikov missed a target in the third shooting test, but ended up hitting five times and going into the final round at the same time. In the final 2,5 kilometers, Dale fired up the turbo, gained a lead of around nine seconds by the split time and finally prevailed with a 13,7 second lead over Babikov, who remains the overall IBU Cup leader. “I tried to do my thing today. When I was shooting, I only looked at myself. I succeeded very well. These two wins give me a lot of confidence. Now it’s time to confirm my good form in the next competitions,” said Dale at the finish.

Meanwhile, Simon Fourcade from France went from eighth to third place. The older brother of superstar Martin Fourcade was 47,4 seconds behind Dale with one shooting error. Biathletes from Norway, France and Russia took a total of nine of the top ten places. The only one from another country who was able to break into this phalanx was Roman Rees. With two errors in the last standing stage, the German missed out on a better placing and ultimately finished eighth. The best “Azzurro”, however, was the Friulian Daniele Cappellari, who worked his way up from position 28 to 21st.

Russian women's hat trick Anastasiia Morozova also achieved the double among women. After her sprint victory, the 24-year-old Russian prevailed in the pursuit competition, after the Ukrainian Nadiia Bielkina and Morozova's compatriot Victoria Slivko were at the top. In the end, Anastasiia Morozova triumphed in 31.05,1 minutes and - like Dale in the men's event - celebrated the second IBU Cup success of her career. And that despite the fact that she made three mistakes at the shooting range. Slivko, who hit all 20 targets, finished in second place, 15,7 seconds behind. With Svetlana Morosova, a third Russian climbed onto the winner's podium and thus completed the hat trick for the biathlon powerhouse. The best biathlete on the Italian team was Irene Lardschneider from Val Gardena. After finishing 23rd in the sprint, she finished 16th in the pursuit and celebrated her best result to date in the IBU Cup in her second appearance in the second highest biathlon series. “I made no mistakes today. I like the shooting range here in Ridnaun. There is still room for improvement in terms of running, but things are getting better from competition to competition. Now I will compete in the IBU Cup in Obertilliach. Competing in the World Cup is a dream that I would like to realize at some point. But at the moment my teammates are in great shape,” said Lardschneider after the pursuit competition. The second “Azzurra” in the field, Samuela Comola from Aostan, finished in 44th place.
