“I love you biathlon, but you hurt me too much”

The Slovakian Terézia Poliaková recently announced the end of her career at the age of 31. There are no great results in the Slovakian's curriculum, but she was still active in the biathlon circuit for 8 years, mainly in the IBU Cup. The ski hunter from Brezno, who took part in 5 world championships, celebrated her best result at the Olympic Games in Pyeongchang when she finished 5th in the relay. The farewell is emotional Poliaková was denied World Cup titles, Olympic medals or top World Cup placings, but the farewell was all the more emotional. After the World Cup in Antholz, she posted a photo and wrote: “I love you biathlon, but you hurt me too much.” The Slovakian alluded to the physical problems that have recently plagued her. In her resignation post, Poliaková then emphasized: “It is no longer possible for my body to do sport at such a high level. I don't know what to expect now, but if the future is anywhere near as good as the past, then I'm looking forward to it. Saying goodbye was a very difficult and emotional decision.”

“I love you biathlon, but you hurt me too much”

Martin Fourcade, Dominik Landertinger, Kaisa Mäkäräinen, Synnøve Solemdal or Alexia Runggaldier – the list of biathletes retiring is a very long one. And it gets longer almost every day, whereby it becomes clear that even farewells to less prominent ski hunters can be very emotional.
