In Antholz the team decides on Sochi

Trainer

Fabrizio Curtaz: “The current season also had many ups and downs, as is often the case in this sport. We like to look at the positive things and can say that some athletes were able to improve. In Antholz our athletes have the last opportunity to qualify for the Olympic Games. On Sunday we will know the team that will be competing in Sochi.

Women's team

Michela Ponza: “I've had two bad weeks where I was knocked out by the flu. I'm already happy with the start here in Antholz. I shot well, now I hope things will improve on the skis too.”

Alexia Runggaldier: “In the sprint, things didn’t go the way I imagined. I've been struggling to find a good rhythm, but that doesn't worry me. In the last few weeks I have shown that I can keep up well.”

Nicole Gontier: “Of course I would have liked to have been at the start today because the atmosphere here is magical. It's a shame, but I have to look ahead now. Tomorrow I will train again and hope to be part of the relay.”

Federica Sanfilippo: “I'm happy with the sprint. My goal was to get into the top 60 so that I could start in the pursuit. I succeeded. Things have to get better in standing shooting, I'm just having problems there at the moment. But this result here today gives me confidence for the next tasks.”

Dorothea Wierer: “I’m happy with how the race went today. I didn't feel very comfortable before the start, but it went well on the skis. The season so far has been good, even if I haven't always been able to achieve my best. I think I've taken a step forward in terms of running. I’m happy about that because that’s what I’ve been working towards.”

Men's team

Luke Hofer: “The first part of the season was satisfactory, even if I still need to become more consistent, especially on skis. Tomorrow I'll give it my all in the sprint, but I don't know what's possible. Until Sochi we have to work on the things that don’t fit yet and improve our fitness.”

Dominik Windisch: “Of course I'm sorry that I can't start here. It was a mistake to start in Ruhpolding. I was already plagued by flu symptoms back then. I am now paying for this mistake. Our team doctor also advised me not to start here. I have to learn lessons from this mistake.”

Daniel Taschler: “For me, as well as for my teammates, it is something very special to be here at the start. I want to do a good sprint and be part of the pursuit competition on Saturday. I know I have to put myself forward to get a ticket to Sochi.”

Christian Martinelli: “I want to get a good result and get on the train towards Sochi. I’m not giving up and will do everything I can to give our head coach a very difficult task.”

Christian De Lorenzi: “The season went well at times. If I shot well, then I got good results. I hope that I can have a strong sprint race tomorrow. If things don’t go well, I’ll just take revenge in Sochi.”

Markus Windisch: “As usual, I didn’t start the season well. Now my shape curve points upwards. The sprint is always a nice competition. It is important to shoot well and quickly. In any case, my feeling before the home race is good.”
