Biathletes with a mega squad to Ruhpolding

In the Biathlon World Cup, things are happening in quick succession. After the stage on the Pokljuka, the race continues in Ruhpolding on Wednesday. Next week the ski hunters will move to Antholz before the World Championships in Oberhof in February.

There are twelve Azzurri in Ruhpolding – more than ever before this year. This is the maximum number because a maximum of six biathletes are allowed per competition. The squad for Ruhpolding consists of Federica Sanfilippo, Lisa Vittozzi, Dorothea Wierer, Samuela Comola, Rebecca Passler and Eleonora Fauner and Didier Bionaz, David Zingerle, Patrick Braunhofer, Tommaso Giacomel, Daniele Fauner and Daniele Cappellari.

So six men and women each, including Sanfilippo, Wierer, Passler, Zingerle and Braunhofer, a total of five from South Tyrol. For Lukas Hofer, however, a comeback comes too early. The large contingent does not come as a surprise. In the World Cup this year, Italy has already celebrated eight podium finishes (three each for Wierer and Vittozzi, and one each in the mixed and women's relay). The biathletes also recently attracted attention with a double victory by Fauner and Hannah Auchentaller in the IBU Cup.

Linda Zingerle makes a comeback in the IBU Cup The second-placed Auchentaller is also starting in the second-class racing series this weekend. If she continues like this, she could return to the World Cup in Antholz. Linda Zingerle, however, will make her season debut in the IBU Cup. The woman from Antholz injured her right fibula in preparation for the season and is making her comeback this week in the stage on the Pokljuka (Slovenia).
