Now Wierer is here! Podium in the pursuit

Now Dorothea Wierer can smile again. After something disappointing start to the new season , the woman from Niederrasner celebrated a great success in the pursuit on Sunday. From ninth place, the South Tyrolean worked her way up to the front, where she only had to admit defeat to the Frenchwoman Julia Simon in the final sections. The result was second place and finally a sense of achievement. Lisa Vittozzi was also at the front for a long time, but showed nerves in the last shooting and had to settle for fourth place. Elvira Öberg from Sweden came third.

After the start, the field came to the first shooting without any major changes, where the race would really begin. Saturday's winner, Lisa Theresa Hauser, immediately showed nerves and missed one of her first five shots. A mistake that both Lisa Vittozzi and Dorothea Wierer took advantage of, as both shot flawlessly and caught up with the leader, closely followed by the Canadian Emma Lunder, the Swede Elvira Öberg and Julia Simon from France.

Vittozzi and Öberg managed to pull away from the rest of the group, but the Swede also missed in the second shooting, had to go into the penalty loop and said goodbye to the leading group. So it was Vittozzi and Wierer who set out on the journey together in the lead. Wierer also benefited from her strong shooting performance in the third attempt and kept up with Vittozzi and Hauser on the cross-country ski run, which remained flawless. After the third shooting, it was Simon, Vittozzi, Lunder and Wierer who together ran about 20 seconds ahead of the rest of the field.

The big showdown should come in the fourth shooting. Every runner in the leading group had to score to keep their hopes of victory alive. Dorothea Wierer's class and experience were evident here. The 32-year-old calmly pulled the trigger and hit the target five times, while Vittozzi and Lunder missed one target each. Now only Julia Simon stood between Wierer and victory in the pursuit in Kontiolahti.

But the Frenchwoman showed an incredible performance on Sunday and gradually pulled away from Niederrasner. So Simon worked his way from 16th place all the way to the front with no missed shots and a lightning-fast run and celebrated at the finish. Wierer grabbed second place and has now fully arrived in the new season. Elvira Öberg beat Vittozzi in the race for third place - but it's still a good result for the Azzurra.

Passler can also be happy Rebecca Passler impressed again with a strong 21st place after yesterday had already achieved their best result of the season so far with 17th place. The young South Tyrolean has taken big steps closer to the top in the world since last season and is now celebrating her second top placement
