Johannes Thingnes Bø as if from another planet

The biathlon world has rarely seen such a performance before: Bø showed no signs of tiredness after his sprint victory and only really surpassed himself in the pursuit race. At the shooting range he hit all the targets at a hellish pace, and on the cross-country ski trail he finally increased his lead over Fourcade. In the last kilometer, Bø picked up the pace and celebrated his finish in appropriate style. The 24-year-old exceptional talent celebrated his eighth win of the season, his third overall in Antholz.

In the end, Fourcade had to admit defeat with a huge deficit of just over a minute - even though he only had to go into the penalty loop once and delivered a strong performance. A small consolation for the Frenchman: With second place, he defended his lead in the overall World Cup over Bø.

The Russian Anton Shipulin secured third place, pushing Arnd Peiffer off the podium. Immediately behind the German, Emil Hegle Svendsen from Norway took fifth place. He made a furious comeback in 32nd place in the sprint.

Windisch and Hofer make a mistake at the shooting range

The host nation's biathletes failed to achieve this - also because they missed the target quite a few times at the shooting range. Dominik Windisch made five mistakes, but still confirmed his 17th place in the sprint competition. The racer, who is currently extremely strong on the cross-country ski trail, recorded the best running time. Lukas Hofer, on the other hand, had to go into the penalty loop six times and ended up in 36th place. The third “Azzurro”, Giuseppe Montello, finished in 47th place after four missed shots.

The World Cup program in Antholz will conclude on Sunday with the two mass start races. The women start at 12.30 p.m., while the men start at 14.45 p.m.

With an extraordinary performance, Johannes Thingnes Bø secured his second victory within 24 hours at the Biathlon World Cup in Antholz. As on the previous day, the Norwegian high-flyer retained the upper hand in the constant duel with Martin Fourcade.
