Karin Oberhofer Italian champion in the mass start in Antholz

Christian De Lorenzi was crowned Italian champion today for the seventh time in his career. In the mass start he won his third gold medal, after two victories in Forni Avoltri in 2006 and Ridnaun in 2007. The 32-year-old from Valtellina, who competes for the forest guard, only missed one target and finished the 15 km in 37.22,8 minutes. Second place, 30,3 seconds behind, went to local hero Dominik Windisch (Army Sports Group), who made headlines just two weeks ago in the World Cup with 5th place in the sprint in Sochi. Windisch also showed a very strong performance on the cross-country ski trail today, but missed a total of five times. His brother Markus Windisch came third, with two shooting errors, 32,1 seconds behind the winner. However, Lukas Hofer (six errors at the shooting range) and Daniel Taschler from Antholz missed out on a podium place.

In the women's category, 27-year-old Karin Oberhofer from Feldthurns (Army Sports Group) celebrated her third Italian championship title, after the two gold medals in the pursuit and sprint in Valdidentro in 2010. Oberhofer missed twice, but won by 42,6 seconds over Nicole Gontier from Aostan (three errors) and 53,3 seconds over Dorothea Wierer (two errors). Behind them were three other South Tyroleans: Alexia Runggaldier and Michela Ponza from Val Gardena and Federica Sanfilippo from Ridnaun.

South Tyroleans win three titles and 9 medals in the youth classes In the juniors, Giuseppe Montello from Friuli came out ahead of the bronze medalist from the Junior European Championships Benjamin Plaickner and Maikol Demetz. For the girls of the same age, the title went to Lisa Gasser from St. Lorenzen.

There was also a South Tyrolean double success in the U18 age group. Carmen Runggaldier from Val Gardena dominated the race and won by more than four minutes over Katharina Leitgeb from Antholz. In the boys category, Andrea Majori from Valtellina won ahead of Andrea Baretto, Federico Di Francesco and Felix Zingerle.

In the U16 age group, the South Tyroleans even celebrated a triple success. Gold went to Hannes Zingerle, silver to Patrick Braunhofer and bronze to Paul Traut. In the girls' category, Michela Salvagno from Piedmont benefited from the catastrophic shooting performance of Alice Cogilli and Irene Lardschneider from Val Gardena, both of whom missed nine targets, and took the Italian championship title.
