Loginov and Chevalier win the pursuit – Oberhofer fifth

Alexander Loginov won the men's pursuit thanks to a strong performance on the trail. The 25-year-old Russian had to go into the penalty loop twice, but was unstoppable on skis and won the European Championship title with a time of 32.22,1:XNUMX minutes. In his victory, Loginov, who started the race in second place, also benefited from the absence of sprint winner Andrejs Rastorgujevs. The Latvian canceled his start in the pursuit without further ado.

Russian Garanichev in third place after a brilliant comeback

Behind Loginov, Bulgarian Krasimir Anev secured the silver medal. The 30-year-old remained flawless at the shooting range and, after taking bronze in the sprint, was able to celebrate his second medal at this European Championship. Evgeniy Garanichev from Russia came in third after a brilliant comeback. The 29-year-old from Tyumen had the fastest running time of the entire field and gained 16 places despite three penalties.

“Azzurri” with a weak balance sheet

The Italian biathletes had no sense of success in the pursuit. Rudy Zini and Pietro Dutto, who were the only “Azzurri” at the start, had to be content with places 38 and 41. Andreas Plaickner from Tesselberg did not qualify for the pursuit as he came 112th in the sprint.

Frenchwoman Chevalier wins her second gold

In the women's pursuit race, France's Chloé Chevalier was in a class of her own. Thanks to flawless shooting, the 22-year-old moved up from second place to first place and thus won her third medal at this European Championship. In the last few days, Chevalier had won gold in the individual competition in addition to the silver medal in the sprint.

Second place went to Ukrainian Irna Varvynets. Julia Simon, another athlete from the French team, completed the podium.

Karin Oberhofer narrowly missed the podium

Local hero Karin Oberhofer narrowly missed out on a medal. The woman from Feldthurn was on course for a podium for a long time, but made one mistake too much in the last standing stage and had to settle for fifth place in the end. Oberhofer was just twelve seconds short of the bronze medal at the finish.

Alexander Loginov (Gold): I feel very comfortable here in Ridanna, and the results reflect that. Skipping the individual race on Wednesday was the right decision as the last few days were very tiring with six races in eight days. I'm annoyed by my two mistakes at the shooting range, but I'm very happy with my performance on the cross-country ski trail.

Krasimir Anev (Silver): I am very happy with the silver medal. Today I was a bit tired, so I didn't try to attack first place on the last lap, but instead tried to secure the silver medal. The bronze medal yesterday gave me a lot of self-confidence, so I was able to go into today's race with a good feeling.

Evgeniy Garanichev (bronze): Despite the three mistakes at the shooting range, I had a good feeling from the start today. Things went great on the cross-country ski trail, and my service people also played a big part in that. After the last shooting I saw Simon (Fourcade) and Vetle (Christiansen) running right in front of me - from that moment on I just attacked more. The fact that I was able to overtake both of them is of course great. ?

The voices for the women's race:

Chloe Chevalier (Gold): Three medals in three races is really more than I expected. Today I saw that Iryna (Varvynets) shoots faster than me, so I pushed extra hard on the trail. Even though it may not seem like it: After the many races over the last few days, I notice that I'm getting more and more tired.

Iryna Varvynets (Silver): I knew that Chloé was faster on skis than me, so I concentrated fully on shooting. Unfortunately, one ending didn't work out so well. I suffered a lot on the last lap - but luckily my lead was big enough to defend the silver medal.

Julia Simon (bronze): After finishing 29th in the sprint, I just wanted to deliver a concentrated, decent performance today. The fact that I have now won a medal is of course a surprise. Standing on the podium with a teammate gives it a special shine.

Karin Oberhofer (5th place): Today I am very satisfied. In contrast to the individual, I felt very fast on the skis today. From race to race I feel that my form is getting better. At the last shooting I had a good series and the miss was just over. But that’s just how biathlon is.
