Lukas Hofer: “The decision is not mine”

It was a season of great suffering for Lukas Hofer, who had to watch the last World Cup from the sidelines. He struggled throughout with inflammation of the tibial plateau, which, among other problems, made life difficult for the veteran. The South Tyrolean managed to take part in the World Cup in Oberhof, but then he went under the knife. After a year like that, it would have been easy to quit at the age of 33. Instead, Hofer wants to keep trying and give his body another chance.

In an interview with Italy Fund The South Tyrolean explained his current situation: “I haven't been using crutches for a few days, but standing for long periods of time still bothers me a bit, but I'm slowly recovering. I'm not training at the moment. In the near future we have to work to get back into decent shape.”

The South Tyrolean emphasized that this should not be the end if he had his way: “Anyone who knows me knows that I am the last one to give up. However, after the last year, I realized that the decision of whether to continue or not is not mine, but my body's. In order to continue, I must be free of various injuries and illnesses. Now I’ll see how it goes and in May or June I’ll make that big choice.”

However, Hofer demonstrated his sense of humor with a little swipe at Dorothea Wierer: “I feel old, but as long as Doro is there, the average age is at least at a decent level.”
