Flawless Öberg takes home gold ahead of Vittozzi

Nachdem Mona Brorsson was awarded the gold medal in the pursuit at the last shooting , her teammate Hanna Öberg did better in the individual. The 23-year-old Swede, who comes from Östersund, remained flawless on the shooting range and sensationally won the gold medal at her home World Championships. Öberg had never won a World Cup race before.

The silver medal went to Lisa Vittozzi, who, like Öberg, made no mistakes on the shooting range. But in the cross-country ski run, the Friulian woman couldn't quite match the Swede's performance. That's why Vittozzi was 23,6 seconds behind Öberg at the finish - but after the messed up first World Cup appearances in the individual races (10th and 21st place) in Östersund, the silver medal is a balm for Vittozzi's soul. Another plus point: In the overall World Cup, the 24-year-old was able to extend her lead over Dorothea Wierer.

Bronze went to Justine Braisaz. The Frenchwoman pushed the two-time bronze medalist Laura Dahlmeier from Germany off the podium at the last second. In the end, the 22-year-old was seven seconds faster than Dahlmeier - both shot past the shooting range once. The Ukrainians achieved a curious result: Both Yuliia Zuravok (14th place) and Yuliia Dzhima (12th place) remained clean four times, but in the end Anastasiya Merkushyna was the best from her country in tenth place despite one miss. Wierer in 8th place: Two mistakes too many Wierer missed all medal chances in the first standing stage. The racer made two mistakes - too many for a place on the podium. The strong running time and the remaining three error-free shooting sessions didn't help either. In the end, Wierer took 1.06,7th place, 8:XNUMX minutes behind world champion Öberg.

Alexia Runggaldier, who surprisingly won the individual bronze medal two years ago, did not live up to her reputation as an excellent shooter. The woman from Val Gardena made three mistakes and because she isn't one of the best on the cross-country ski trail anyway, she didn't make it into the top 50.
