Martell: Pure excitement in the relays

The boys opened the dance in the morning and there was a confident victory for the Polish team. Konrad Badacz, Jan Gunka and Marcin Zawol had already won gold at the 2021 Youth World Championships in Obertilliach (East Tyrol), and here they repeated it together with Hubert Matusik achieved this success, beating the second-placed Germans by over a minute. The Ukraine secured third place ahead of the Czechs and the Italians, who had a solid line-up with Thomas Daziano, Nicolò Betemps, Fabio Piller Cottrer and Elia Zeni took fifth place. Even better – from a home perspective – the girls in the Italian team did it in the afternoon. Fabiana Carpella, Ilaria Scattolo, Gaia Brunetto and Sara Scattolo only had to admit defeat to the favored German biathletes, although the outcome was often on a knife's edge and the lead sometimes increased and sometimes decreased. So pure tension. Third place went to the Austrians, whose final runner Lara Wagner was able to defeat the Ukrainian running in front of her in the final with a brilliant start on the final climb. However, it was a busy day for the Russian team. While the boys had to bury all hopes of a top spot due to a total of five penalty laps, Kristina Pavlushina made a mistake on the shooting range for the women, forgot two spare rounds and also forgot to run a penalty lap, so that the Russian relay team received six penalty minutes. But in biathlon there are days like that... Even without an audience (unfortunately) it was another beautiful biathlon festival in Martell, with great weather and no wind. Next week we will continue with the second station in this year's IBU Junior Cup. This begins on Wednesday with two sprint competitions.

The final day of competition at the IBU Junior Cup in Martell saw the relays on the program. And it was an incredibly exciting day, with surprising twists and turns, triumphs and disappointments.
