After disembarkation: Biathlete ends career

At the end of April he found out that he had been kicked out of the national team, and now he is putting an end to his biathlon career. His sudden resignation caused quite a stir in Norway.

Aleksander Fjeld Andersen achieved a 6th place in the World Cup and four podium finishes in the IBU Cup last season. Nonetheless he was dropped from the national team – because the competition in Norway is enormous. “I have to admit, it was a big shock for me and difficult to digest,” he said at the time. As is now clear, he no longer sees his future in biathlon. Fjeld Andersen told the Norwegian broadcaster on Wednesday TV2 his resignation.

“I told those closest to me first,” explains the 26-year-old from Geilo. It was a bit strange and there were a few tears.” But it was good to make a decision.

Now he is becoming a full-time student

His sudden deportation still bothers him today. "I'm disappointed. We sat together in Alta and evaluated the season. Three days later, without warning, I'm no longer there. It’s impossible to prepare for it,” says the biathlete. He tried until the end to establish a cooperation with the cross-country skiing team in order to save his career, but was unsuccessful. “I can at least leave with the feeling that I have achieved more than most biathletes in their career,” emphasizes Fjeld Andersen.

In the future, the Norwegian can concentrate fully on his studies in real estate brokerage, which he will complete either in Oslo or Bergen. “It will be fun to do new things,” he concludes.
