After luggage loss: Wierer on the podium with someone else's rifle

The racer had checked in at the airport with plenty of luggage in advance of the summer event, but it never arrived at its destination in Frankfurt. Instead, it was later located in Amsterdam, where airport staff had mistakenly sent it. So Wierer drove to Wiesbaden without any equipment or a rifle. When the report of the lost luggage made the rounds in the Hessian state capital, it didn't take long before a local ski club came onto the scene. He quickly provided the star biathlete with the necessary racing equipment and thus enabled her to take part in the high-ranking city biathlon.

Things didn't initially go as desired for Wierer there - probably due to the switch to third-party material. As the competition continued, she picked up speed on her roller skis and shone at the shooting range with error-free attempts. In the end, last winter's overall World Cup winner made it onto the podium in third place.

Wierer's teammate and long-term rival Lisa Vittozzi put in a similarly spectacular performance, leading the field over the entire race distance and ultimately running confidently to victory. The Friulian relegated Monika Hojnisz from Poland to second place. Lukas Hofer just missed the podium For men, the fight for prestige success was clearly a family affair: Tarjei Bø won ahead of his younger brother and five-time world champion Johannes Thingnes Bø. Like last year, Lukas Hofer from Montal took fourth place in sweaty temperatures.
