After death: Great sadness for biathlon star

The Norwegian men won the silver medal in the relay race on Saturday. It may not have been the gold that was hoped for and expected (it went to France), but precious metal remains precious metal. For a biathlete from the “Elche” it was a race of mixed emotions, which, however, did not only have to do with sports: Vetle Sjåstad Christiansen lost his grandmother shortly before the competition. In an interview with NRK the ski hunter gave insights into his emotional world. “It's obviously very sad when that happens, especially when you're traveling. Both me and my mother are here (in Oberhof, editor's note). At the same time, we should be happy that Grandma got so many years. She was 93 years old,” said the 30-year-old. A close relationship Christiansen explained that he had a very close relationship with his grandmother. He spent a lot of time with her during his childhood. “My parents traveled a lot for work, so I and my sister were always at my grandmother’s. Without them there wouldn't have been much going on during the Easter or Christmas holidays," said Christiansen, who added: "It's very, very difficult when someone you're close to dies. There are moments when I feel very sad.” Even if the sadness is great, there is at least a small ray of hope for Christiansen. “The funeral isn’t until this week, so I can attend. Maybe it’s fate that it’s happening now, when I can be at home,” concludes the biathlete.
