After World Cup bronze: “The ice is broken”

For starting runner Lisa Vittozzi (Sappada/Plodn) it is the second World Cup medal of her career; in 2015 in Kontiolahti (FIN) she won bronze in the 4x6km relay together with Dorothea Wierer, Nicole Gontier, Michela Ponza and Karin Oberhofer. Racer Dorothea Wierer now has 4 World Championship medals (1x silver, 3x bronze). Lukas Hofer (Montal) won his 2nd World Championship bronze medal (2011/2019) on Thursday, while for Dominik Windisch (turf) it is the 1st World Championship medal.

“It was a nice race, I was able to deliver my performance at the shooting range and was also fast on the cross-country ski trail,” analyzed Lisa Vittozzi after the race. “The self-confidence is there,” said Vittozzi, who was the only “Azzurra” to get through the shooting without making any mistakes. Dorothea Wierer struggled a bit with the changing conditions at the shooting range: “I’m happy that we now have our first Mixed World Championship medal. Now the ice has been broken, there are still many World Cup decisions here.”

Lukas Hofer also didn't perform well in shooting, but the man from Montal is still very satisfied: “Starting a World Championships with a medal is the best thing that can happen to you. This gives you an incredible amount of energy for the upcoming competitions. We won the gold medal, so to speak, with missed shots, so the bronze medal shines even more beautifully.”

Final runner Dominik Windisch made it really exciting. At the last shooting he had to reload three times, the pursuers were also already at their limit. But Windisch hit the last shot. “As has often been the case, I had the honor – and the pressure – to start as the last runner. Dealing with this responsibility is not easy. But we are a great team and fought until the end."
