Next win! Wierer is the Queen of Sweden

Wierer had already shown a perfect race in the individual on Thursday. Three days later, “Doro” went one better and cleared all 20 targets again at the shooting range. This meant that the 32-year-old could not be beaten in the mass start on Sunday either. With her second brilliant performance in the Östersund week, Wierer achieved her third win of the season, the 16th overall of her career.

Wierer showed a perfect race from the start. In the end, she came to the final shooting almost 10 seconds behind the previously leading Julia Simon and almost at the same time as her teammate Lou Jeanmonnot. Simon aimed at the windows first. But the overall World Cup leader missed the mark with the very last shot. Wierer took advantage of this opportunity in a skilful manner, cleared all the targets in a flash and took the lead.

Afterwards, Wierer was the first to go on the final lap. She was followed by Jeanmonnot (+3,1 seconds) and Simon (+12,6). But Wierer didn't let the two French women get close. The South Tyrolean confirmed her excellent running form and ran jubilantly across the finish line in bright sunshine. In the overall standings, Wierer has overtaken Lisa Vittozzi and is now in second place. Vittozzi had a slow day in the mass start right from the start and had to settle for 18th place.

Wierer, on the other hand, generally seems to feel comfortable in Östersund. On Sunday she won her fifth victory in the city of 50.000 inhabitants. This also includes her first world title in 2019, when she won gold in the mass start on the same day as Dominik Windisch.

Auchentaller is establishing itself Hannah Auchentaller’s performance was also strong. In what was only her second mass start, the young woman from Antholz finished in a strong 22nd place. It was only on Thursday that Auchentaller achieved her best World Cup result to date with 17th place. The relay world champion from Oberhof has now established herself in the elite class. The World Cup in Östersund concludes on Sunday afternoon (16 p.m.) with the men's mass start.
