Norway wins dramatic relay – South Tyroleans make a mistake

Norway won Olympic gold in the men's relay after a dramatic final round. This already seemed out of reach before the Russian goalkeeper Eduard Latypov completely lost his nerve. In the last standing stage he missed several times and thus gave up a huge lead.

Vetle Sjaastad Christiansen, who had had difficulties on the cross-country ski trail until then, took advantage of the moment, mobilized the last reserves of strength and led Norway to a victory that was no longer thought possible. The previously flawless and simply outstanding Russians had to settle for bronze behind France and its dazzling star Quentin Fillon Maillet. In the end, Germany came away completely empty-handed in the four-way battle for three medals. Italy on track until half time For a long time it seemed as if Italy could also get involved in the fight for the medals. Thomas Bormolini and the young Tommaso Giacomel showed a very strong performance and led the Azzurri to the podium places with a total of only five spares, so Lukas Hofer took over almost at the same time as the third-placed Belarusians.
